Portman Holdings, developer of 615 South College in Uptown Charlotte, announced today that BDO USA, LLP, one of the nation’s leading accounting and consulting organizations, has leased 24,837 square feet of office space in the building, which is nearly complete. This will replace the accounting firm’s existing space outside of Uptown, and all Charlotte employees will move to 615 South College as early as August.

Travis Garland, along with Trinity Partners’ John Ball, represented ownership, while Brent Royall with Colliers negotiated the lease on behalf of BDO.

“All of our partners and staff are looking forward to moving into our new Uptown offices at 615 South College.  This premier Class A building provides BDO with the presence the firm has been looking for in Charlotte,” said Jack Giegerich, Assurance Office Managing Partner for BDO USA’s Charlotte office.   “Over the past four years, BDO USA has grown faster than any other national accounting firm, more than doubling revenues ““ from $618 million in 2012 to $1.29 billion in 2016.  But even as we have grown, we have stayed committed to retaining our culture through our Exceptional Workplace strategy, which will be very evident in our new Uptown office.  Exceptional Workplace is a flexible office strategy that enables a collaborative work environment that serves different work styles across BDO practice groups and generations.  In addition to encouraging teamwork and maximizing productivity, the strategy has paid dividends in the recruitment and retention of staff.”

John Portman & Associates designed 615 South College to feature modern, efficient floorplates that can be utilized to create a more collaborative space. The building is prominently positioned at Uptown Charlotte’s first light rail stop at Stonewall Station, providing unmatched access to transit, interstates, the area’s many amenities and exciting new developments, including center city’s first Whole Foods, part of a major nearby mixed-use development.

Surrounded by respected corporate neighbors, including Duke Energy and several other large financial institutions, it’s steps away from the city’s professional sports arenas, parks, and the Charlotte Convention Center, as well as the Portman-developed and owned Westin Charlotte. The design of the class-A office building includes multiple balconies and outdoor space with remarkable views of the city and South End.

“We’re very proud that BDO is joining us at 615 South College,” said Travis Garland, director of leasing for Portman Holdings. “A tenant of this caliber selecting this location is a reflection of how unique and special this building is, and we’re excited to have them move in later this year.”

This is the second lease for this 370,000-square-foot speculative building located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Portman announced in 2016 that Regions Bank leased more than 60,000 square feet and will move in later this year.
