Lankford Phelps Portman today announced that a dealership for Pedego Electric Bikes, the country’s top electric bike company founded in Southern California, has leased retail space at BRIC, the new mixed-use development in San Diego’s North Embarcadero. Lankford Phelps Portman is a real estate joint venture comprised of Portman Holdings, Lankford & Associates, and Hensel Phelps. This will be Pedego’s first store in downtown San Diego.
Pedego San Diego is leasing a 1,479 square-foot space on the ground floor, boasting sweeping bay views. The deal was brokered by Jim Reinhart of Retail Insite representing the owner and William Strong of Riviera Real Estate Inc. representing Pedego San Diego. While design of its permanent location is underway, Pedego recently opened a pop-up shop at the plaza which offers free test rides and rentals.
“Pedego fits perfectly into the energetic vibe of this property,” said Carey Owens, vice president asset management of Portman Holdings. “Both tourists and locals will be drawn to its innovative electric bikes, adding to the enjoyment of the outdoor space at BRIC and elsewhere along the North Embarcadero area.”
“As Pedego continues to expand, BRIC is the ideal location for us to introduce our electric bikes to visitors staying at the nearby hotels and those departing on cruises at the pier who can explore much of San Diego from this location,” said Sean Chavez, owner of Pedego San Diego. “Lane Field Park, with its history as the former home of the minor league San Diego Padres, is right outside our doorstep and offers the perfect place for customers to ride our bikes.”
Pedego stores offer sales, service and rentals of its fun-to- ride bikes. Complimentary test rides are available at all Pedego stores. There are approximately 100 stores across the country, including three additional stores in San Diego County. Pedego San Diego supports the local cycling community through the San Diego County Bike Coalition and local events including the San Diego Electric Light Parade.
The BRIC complex includes a 147-room Residence Inn and a 253-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott, which opened last February. Additional retail tenants include Beach Hut Deli and Ryan Bros. Coffee, which have occupied a shared 2,690 square-foot floor plan since November of 2016.
BRIC’s second phase, designed by John Portman & Associates, will include the 18-story InterContinental ® Hotel with 400 guest rooms. The hotel will sit atop ground-level retail space, which will eventually be occupied by a variety of dining, wellness, fitness and shopping destinations along Broadway and Pacific Highway. Jim Rinehart, Commercial Real Estate Broker for Retail Insite, is responsible for all retail leasing.
