Santiago Barbosa

At Portman, Santiago focuses on sourcing and executing development projects, with an emphasis on student housing. His responsibilities include identifying and securing land opportunities, managing budgets, schedules, and consultant teams, and supporting project capitalization efforts.

Since joining Portman in 2021, Santiago has played a key role in the development of over 650 multifamily residential units. Notable projects he has contributed include Linea, a 370-unit high-rise located in Charlotte’s South End, and Vera, a 319-unit residential community in the FreeMoreWest neighborhood.

Before joining Portman, Santiago was with Ares Management, where he contributed to the successful closing of over $1.5 billion in real estate transactions. He began his career at Truist Bank as part of the Institutional Private Capital real estate team.

Santiago holds a Master’s degree in Finance from Washington University in St. Louis and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Clemson University.
