Santiago Barbosa
At Portman, Santiago specializes in sourcing and executing development projects, with a primary emphasis on student housing and conventional multifamily. His responsibilities include identifying and securing land sites, managing consultants and vendors, overseeing schedules and budgets, and conducting financial underwriting.
Since joining Portman in 2021, Santiago has made considerable contributions to the financing and development of over 650 multifamily residential homes. Notable projects he has been involved in include Linea, a 370-unit high-rise building located in South End, Charlotte, and Vera, a 319-unit residential community situated in Charlotte’s FreeMoreWest neighborhood.
Prior to joining Portman, Santiago held a position at Ares Management within its Real Estate debt division. He led the underwriting of subordinate and senior debt transactions on behalf of its managed funds, REITs, and separate accounts, contributing to the closure of over $1.5 billion in loans. Before Ares, Santiago began his career at Truist Bank, where he served as a portfolio manager within the real estate Institutional Private Capital team.
Santiago holds a Masters in Finance from Washington University in Saint Louis, along with a Bachelors in Economics and Data Management from Clemson University.
